Mom had talked about how having a witch’s cauldron prop for Halloween this year would really put her into the spirit of things. So naturally, when I saw one in a store at the mall with color-changing fog rising up from within the large black cauldron all covered in cobwebs, it got my attention. Examining this enchanting Halloween prop further, I discovered it had a most bewitching price too…$80 plus tax! Costing a bit more than I had budgeted for mom’s creepy cauldron, I immediately began conjuring up ideas on how I might make one just as spooky for half the price or even less.

First, I knew I needed that fogging device with the colored lights. That was the secret ingredient to my brew, the “eye of newt” if you will. I began hunting around online and finally found a similar fogging device with color-changing lights was available for $25.

Next, I needed the cauldron kettle itself. A quick browse through the Halloween section of the local department store netted me a large, black plastic cauldron for about $4 that I knew would look just as great at night, especially once the attention was drawn into the colorful cauldron fog brewing within it.

While there, I bought a small jug of the highly-touted “fog juice” only to later read in the fogger’s instructions that distilled water can be used just as well so long as you clean the device properly after each use. So, I experimented using both the fog juice and the distilled water and guess what I discovered? The distilled water indeed worked just as well, if not better, than the expensive fog juice! So, now I knew the fog juice was one pricey element I could eliminate from my secret brew. Onto the finishing touch…

Of course, to make it truly an authentic cauldron that any self-respecting witch would be proud of, it just had to have cobwebs wrapped around it! No problem as, once again, packs of cobwebbing (both standard white and yellow glow in the dark) were found for a buck or less in the Halloween section of the same store.

Placing a couple bricks in the bottom of the cauldron supports a small dark colored pan near the top for the distilled water in which sits the fogger. Voila, my pretty! For less than half the price of the witch’s cauldron that initially captured my interest in the mall, mom is enchanted with her authentically large Halloween witch’s cauldron and now whips up a fresh batch of brew at every opportunity. Halloween hair dye help!?!?

Okay, my hair is naturally curly, and i want to straighten it for halloween. I'm dying my hair black, and when I straighten it and then use the black hair spray, it becomes unstraighten. Is there any way to keep it straight and black(When I straighten my hair, it also comes our easily anywa)? Should I use a temporary hair dye from sallys or something else? SOMEBODY HELP PLEASE!?

Tricks To Make Halloween A Treat For Diabetic Children

Today, candy is the central focus of the spookiest holiday of the year. In fact, the average American consumes 24 pounds of candy in a year, most of which is eaten right after Halloween according to the U.S. Census Bureau. But for diabetic children, it can be difficult to enjoy the festivities when all their fellow goblins are in a frenzy to get their hands on mounds of sweet treats.

Marc Wolf, registered pharmacist and CEO of Diabetic Care Services, provides the following tips to help parents of diabetic children shift the focus off Halloween candy so the kids can have more fun.

- Explain to diabetic children ahead of time that they should not snack on candy until you are home from trick-or-treating. (Parents, that goes for you too!)
- Lots of walking can affect blood glucose levels for anyone with diabetes, so pack a healthy snack that you can rely on to battle lows. This way, you avoid the temptation of dipping into the Halloween treat bag for a quick solution if your child’s blood sugar levels begin to drop.
- If your child has diabetes, choosing which type of candy to pass out is important because there is a good chance you will have leftovers.  If you select the correct type of candy, you can use leftovers to treat lows throughout the year.  According to the American Diabetes Association, chocolate and other higher-fat treats do not work well for treating lows.  Therefore, if you anticipate leftovers, choose hard candy, gumdrops or lollipops to pass out at Halloween so you can use the leftovers to treat lows.
- Do not feel you have to deprive your child of all Halloween candy because they have diabetes. Instead, allow them to choose a fun size, smaller version of their favorite candy. Just remember to adjust their meal plan based on the number of carbohydrates in the sweet treat. Visit the JDRF web site for a list of common Halloween candy carbohydrate values.
- After trick-or-treat hours are over, sit down with your child and help them choose a few of his or her favorite pieces of candy they can enjoy throughout the week. To help diabetic children part with the leftover candy, allow them to exchange it for money, a toy or some other special treat (a special dinner, trip to the movies, etc).
- If you do not want to waste the extra candy by throwing it away, go wi

th your child to donate the leftovers to a hospital or senior center. Not only will your child learn healthy diabetes management habits, they will receive a lesson in sharing.
- Take the focus off Halloween candy by encouraging diabetic children to create an exciting Halloween costume. You can even involve the entire family by designating a day to work on homemade costumes.
- Halloween costumes often require plenty of face paint, body paint and colored hair spray. When the festivities are over, ensure you give proper attention to skin and scalp cleansing and care. Use food coloring to turn your favorite dip or sugar-free whipped topping orange, and pair with fruit and cheese or vegetables for a festive tray. For dessert, dish out sugar-free chocolate pudding in individual cups and garnish with sugar-free whipped topping and sugar-free candy worms for a creepy surprise.
